Although he assumed office in January, David A. King was formally inaugurated as president of Malone University on Saturday in the new Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts on the Canton campus.
King was provost at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa., in suburban Philadelphia, when selected by the search committee last fall.
He formally accepted the presidency at a convocation attended by delegates from 37 colleges and universities and one scholarly society: AICUO, represented by research director Bob Burke. The date of the event was chosen to coincide with homecoming activities, including a rainy football game against AICUO member and GLIAC rival Notre Dame, in the interest of drawing all elements of the university community for the inauguration.
In his address, he described Malone as an “aspirational community” with “a posture of readiness, a posture of expectancy that we too — as a community — are poised for transformation.”
